June 1969 - Intercontinental Airport Houston (IAH) opens!

1997 - Intercontinental Airport Houston was renamed George Bush Intercontinental Airport/Houston, after George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States.

January 13, 1998 - Learjet 25B crashes on approach

April 2, 2010 - Homeland Security announced new and more stringent inspection procedures for international travelers at Houston's Bush Airport.

May 3, 2010 - Continental Airlines and United Airlines announced plans to merge the two companies. Continental is currently based in Houston, and it is anticipated that the merger will cause a significant loss of jobs over several years, as operations of the two airlines are consolidated. The new airline will be named United Airlines, and will use the current Continental logo and colors.

May 4, 2010 - A smoking & ruptured suitcase was discovered by a baggage handler at Bush Airport. No explosion was reported, and there were no injuries.
